UC Davis is committed to ensuring equal access to educational opportunities for students with disabilities. An integral component to that commitment is the coordination of academic accommodations and support services through the Student Disability Center (SDC).
The SDC provides a full range of services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students including on-staff interpreters/captioners, assistive listening devices, and note-takers. Please see our Guide to Communication Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students for more information.
Students requesting accommodations must first establish eligibility by providing documentation of an impairment that limits a major life activity. Documentation must meet the following criteria:
A copy of the most recent audiogram (hearing test) must be provided. Testing should be within three years of the student's initial request for services.
A report from the professional who administered the audiogram must be included. The report must include the following:
A physician, audiologist, or a qualified diagnosing professional must sign the report.
Requests for accommodations are considered on an individual basis by taking into account institutional obligations to provide equal access to educational opportunities, documented current functional limitations, and the student's course requirements. It is the student's responsibility to submit all requests for disability-based accommodations to the SDC each academic term.
