Overview
An Assistive Listening Device (ALD) increases a student’s ability to hear in challenging environments such as large, crowded, or noisy rooms. The SDC can provide a portable Assistive Listening System receiver that connects with the speaker systems in lecture halls and classrooms. This allows the student to listen to the instructor directly and adjust the volume as needed. FM units are considered when the Assistive Listening System is not effective due to the classroom environment or the student’s hearing technology.
Accessing an Assistive Listening Device (ALD)
After an SDC Disability Specialist has granted an accommodation for an Assistive Listening Device, students will need to connect with the Assistive Technology team to determine the appropriate option for them. The Assistive Technology team can demonstrate equipment usage for the student and facilitate the equipment check-out process for the quarter.
