American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting Information for Students

Requesting ASL Interpreting for Enrolled Courses (Each Quarter)

Each quarter you must request your ASL Interpreting accommodation for the course in My SDC Online. It is advised that you request services as soon as you are registered so that you don’t experience a delay in receiving services. Please note that it may take up to two weeks to receive ASL Interpreting services once your request is submitted.

Scheduling Logistics

  • Adding and Dropping Classes: Use My SDC Online to request ASL Interpreting for class changes or additions. Notify the Communication Services Supervisor after making My SDC Online updates or when dropping a course for which you requested or are receiving interpreting. Please allow up to two weeks for ASL Interpreting services after submitting your request.
  • Lateness or Absence: Please inform the Communication Services Supervisor promptly if you will be late or unable to attend class. If no advance notice is given, interpreters will wait 10 minutes for 50-minute classes, 20 minutes for 80 minute-classes, and 30 minutes for classes lasting two hours or more.
  • Class Cancellation: If a class is cancelled, please notify the Communication Services Supervisor as soon as possible. You may also notify the interpreters.

Requesting ASL Interpreting for Course Activities Outside of Class Time

If you require ASL Interpreting for course-required activities held outside of the scheduled class time (i.e. field trips, office hours, group meetings), please send an email to the Communication Services Supervisor including the activity, date, time and location. Whenever possible, please provide advance notice of such meetings or requirements.

Requesting ASL Interpreting Services for Non-Course Activities

To request ASL Interpreting for events or meetings that are not part of your enrolled courses, please ask the hosting department to contact the Student Disability Center to submit an accommodation request.
